An update on our October travels
“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove
the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh . . . then the nations
that are left all around you shall know that I am the Lord.” Ezekiel 36.26, 36
Greetings to our partners in the Gospel!
What an incredible truth it is that God’s purpose in saving us is not just for our own sake (see v. 22) but also for the sake of the nations and ultimately for the sake of His own name! God’s intention is not that salvation would stop with us but that the beauty of lives transformed by the Gospel would be the means by which He would draw people from every tribe, tongue, and nation into a relationship with Him. When we tell others about the hope of the Gospel, we become a conduit through which Gospel transformation can take place, and we allow ourselves to be used by God in His mission of redeeming His people. Our prayer is that God would keep us faithful to share this hope with the lost, for their good and for God’s glory.
Thank you for your prayers for us during this last month. We felt like we were going a million miles an hour, but we are grateful for all the opportunities we were given to tell others about the ministry in the Czech Republic. Our biggest adventure in October was a trip to Louisiana to spend time with the folks at Fellowship Church in Prairieville. By God’s grace, the church had not only decided to become prayer partners and monthly supporters, but they also arranged for us to travel to Louisiana and meet them. David led worship and we had a chance to share the vision for the church plant during their Sunday morning services. We stayed with the Henkels (fellow North Wakers) and got to spend some time seeing where they minister and getting insight into life in Louisiana. We were also able to speak this month at Freedom Fellowship right here in Greer, SC. We were grateful for the chance to share the vision and have the people there pray over our family and ministry. I (David) also went with a group from TCC to the North American Church Planting Foundation (NACPF) conference in Raleigh. I got to spend several days hearing about the work God is doing in some very tough places in North America. The NACPF is beginning to develop partnerships with overseas ministries as well, and I was able to network with the pastors there and begin discussing what a partnership with the Gospel for Czech ministry might look like. I’m hoping we can edify one another in our efforts to plant churches all around the world.
October was a busy but very encouraging month. We are grateful for all the opportunities God has given us to share our vision, and we’re praying for many more. And we are grateful for all of you!
For their good and His glory,
One thing we failed to do this month was to take good pictures to document our travels. We did get this picture of the 3 of us in front of the LSU tiger cage while we were in Louisiana. Visiting the campus and eating at Sammy’s Grill for dinner was a fun way to end the trip.
We wanted to give you a glimpse of how God is working to transform hearts in the Czech Republic. Below is a message sent from a girl named Martina who attended the English Camp the Váhalas helped lead this summer. Keep in mind that Martina likely had never heard the Gospel message prior to attending this camp.
I have to write you something. I have just prayed, you know? Before half an hour, I was talking with Tess, about God, about English camp and yours and Anthony’s speeches. I think, that it really helped me. You helped me! Now I asked and pleaded God. I had fell down, on my knees and pleaded Him, to show me my way, to get know Him more. And that I know, I deserve go to hell, because I have did a lot of sins. I prayed, if He can save me from my sins and that I thank Him, that he sent his Son and he had suffered for us, sinners. Tuan, I think, you and your team did really good work. I will do everything I can, to be closer to God. Thank you sooo much, for what have you done. I don’t know, if we will be on Sunday in Kroměříž. I hope so, but it’s long way and we don’t have a car to get there. Anyway, say hello to every single one of team and that I ALREADY MISS YOU ALL!
Praise God for His faithfulness to use His people to share His Gospel and continue drawing the lost to Himself! Pray that more Czechs would soon be able to tell their own story of the hope they have found in Jesus.
Startup Costs & End of the Year Giving
As we get closer to being 100% funded, our focus will shift toward raising money to cover our startup costs. Buying plane tickets, putting down a deposit on an apartment, furnishing our apartment (the Váhalas didn’t even have light fixtures in their house when they moved in), getting visa documentation…the lists of items that will factor into our initial relocation cost is extensive. We would love for you to pray about giving a one-time, end-of-the-year gift to help offset these expenses. All gifts sent to us through North Wake are tax-deductible, and they will be a tremendous blessing as we begin our big move. You can find information about giving on our Give page.
- Two weeks ago, we moved into the mission house we had been praying for. Thank you for your prayers! This house is a huge blessing.
- Thanks to a new church partnership, we may be as much as 90% funded right now (depending on the final figure)! This boost puts us ahead of our support-raising schedule!
- Pray for us to stay focused and dependent upon God as we get closer to moving to the Czech.
- Pray for peace and greater faith as we fight off fears that come with moving our family overseas.
- Pray that we would model obedience and glad submission to God for our children. We have had to deal with a lot of disobedience and defiance in the last few weeks.
