April and I met while we were studying at North Greenville University. We both felt individual calls to overseas missions while at NGU, and after graduating in 2007 and being married for a year, we moved to Wake Forest, NC for me to attend Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and pursue an M.Div. in Missiology. We spent 4 1/2 incredible years in Wake Forest, where we had our first 2 children and received a wealth of education and training, both through Southeastern and through our home church there, North Wake. After graduating from SEBTS in 2013, we were commissioned by North Wake to be a part of a church-planting effort in Czech Republic and moved back to SC to raise support. We moved to Czech Republic at the beginning of 2015 and served there for 2 1/2 years. God taught us so much during our time in Czech Republic. He grew our dependence on Him and gave us a greater love for Christ and His Church. We were given the opportunity to share the Gospel with many who had never heard, and by God’s grace we had the privilege of helping begin a small group Bible study in our home with believers in our city.
Then, in the early part of 2017, we began to sense the Lord leading us to pray about church planting in the Republic of Ireland. We had heard about an Irish church-planting network, Calvary Mission, that was trying to reach 50 towns in Ireland that have 10,000+ people and no evangelical witness, and we felt this was God’s next step for our family. So, in August 2017, we packed up and made the 2-hour flight from Prague to Dublin and settled in the town of Roscommon, where we are attending and serving at Grace Community Church as we begin an internship with Calvary Mission called TREO that is designed to help us understand Irish culture, history, and worldview so that, by God’s grace, we can more effectively witness to and disciple the people here. It is our prayer that at the end of this internship, we will be sent out to one of these unreached towns to begin the process of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ and planting a church for His glory!
The Republic of Ireland
Despite its rich Christian history, Ireland is currently the least evangelized English-speaking country in the world, with only around 1% of the population claiming to be evangelical, born-again Christians. Ireland has long been known as a bastion of Catholicism, the land of ‘saints and scholars,’ but the culture is rapidly moving away from the church and religion and toward secularism. Devotion to religion is waning, and very few people understand the message of the Bible because so few have actually read it for themselves. There is a great need for Bible-believing, Gospel-centered churches in Ireland, and it is our prayer that such churches will be planted in Ireland as God works through the efforts of the faithful believers who labor here.
Our vision is to reach the people of Ireland by sharing the Gospel in word and deed, making disciples, and gathering believers into local churches, all to the glory of God!
In His providence, God has called us to be a part of the church-planting efforts in Ireland and to work alongside other believers to reach the peoples of Ireland with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We hope to build relationships with Irish people and begin sharing the hope of the Gospel with them. We hope to make disciples and gather them into a local congregation. We hope to begin identifying and equipping Irish believers who will lead other believers in the process of becoming mature, ministering, and multiplying worshipers of Jesus. We will be partnering with Crosslands Seminary as we train and send out leaders to plant churches in other parts of Ireland (and hopefully around the world!). We hope to serve the church in Ireland through preaching, worship leading, Christian publishing, song-writing, and even coffee roasting! Our vision is God-sized, but we believe God has given it to us, so we trust He will equip and guide us by His Spirit as we seek to follow His direction for the work here.
We are able to serve in Ireland thanks to the generous support of many individuals, businesses, and missions-minded churches that want to be a part of reaching the people of Ireland with the Gospel. We pray God will use our meager efforts to bring glory to Himself and to bring revival in the Republic of Ireland.
Soli Deo gloria
